The Hobby Holder is Back with New Parts and New Colors!

We have been working tirelessly to get everything ready for this campaign and get the injection molds approved! We know you will LOVE the new additions to the Hobby Holder line.

The New Ergonomic Grip Mod has been completely redesigned and now the Hobby Holder Base clicks in (you still have the ability to bolt it in as well)! We have been fine tuning the curves and sizing and it is SO COMFY! The design also features full 360 degree rotation without having to releasing your grip, just spin the Hobby Holder Base like with all the modes :O

The New XL Stability Bar has ample room to be used with miniatures with up to 70mm bases! We have also tweaked all the angles so even with the taller and wider handle it still feels great and gives you that superior support just a grip doesn't afford.

We are also getting a second run of the original Hobby Holder parts in New Colors!

You Scrolled All The Way! - The Miniature Knight Mini UNLOCKED (did you miss him the the first photo?)

 

We had The Miniature Knight resculpted by the amazing Bobby Jackson! It is currently being master molded by Fortress Figures and he is available as an add-on to campaign pledges! I will post some more detailed shots on the new campaign.

Has it really been a whole year since the Hobby Holder All-in-one Painting Handle and Grip funded?!?!

Yes. Yes it has (and one day) :O

What a year it has been! After fulfillment finished up in February we opened up the Game Envy webstore and we now have over 4000 painters in 54 countries using the Hobby Holder! We got new colors of Hobby Holders since the campaign as well! Enjoying your Hobby Holder? We would love your rating on Facebook and we are always looking for video and blog reviews!

We have met so many awesome new people this last year and have teamed up for giveaways and partnered with some amazing Youtube and Twitch channels. We had a blast at NOVA Open and Baltimore Comic Con and have already signed up to attend next year as well. The next convention on our schedule is PAX Unplugged Nov. 30-Dec. 2! Good 'Morrow Fam!

It is crazy how you can ease yourself into something and after a while it normalizes... like stepping into a hot shower and feeling like it has just melted the flesh from your bones versus slowly turning up the heat until you can't see your towel through the steam, or slowly turning the speed up on your audio book until you are a pro at 2.5x and turning it back to 1x make it sounds like the reader was hit with the slow spell XD I bring this up because slowly getting less sleep over the last few month I am able look at the clock and be like "Oh nice, it is only 3 a.m.; if I get to bed soon I get like 4 hours of sleep. Score!" This is also my excuse for the weird greeting up there o.O

But I digress.

The 4x Mod File STLs Are Ready!

I have been tweaking these and running test prints over the last few weeks and the Mod File STLs are all done. I am uploading them and you should be receiving an email from BackerKit shortly! I am still finishing up the 4X Mod File Plans and am aiming to release those early next week, so keep an eye out for THAT BackerKit email.

I will be adding physical copies of the Mods to the Game Envy store in Resin, ABS and PLA soon, if you don't have a printer and want the printed versions. I am also uploading them to Shapeways; they are more expensive there, but they have great finishing and all kinds of colors and materials such as metal.

Because resolution when 3D printing, the threads and 3mm rods needed to make the grip mods work weren't feasible beyond expensive resin on expensive SLA printers, so I set them up to accept standard nuts and bolts of the correct size to ensure your Hobby Holder and Grip Mods work flawlessly together! Physical orders will come with the nut and bolt pre-attached and I will have singles in stock if needed.

Setting up your Grip Mods

Grip Mod #1 and #2 just need a #6x32 nut superglued into the hole on the bottom of the grip mod then, if you printed it in two pieces, the two halves are glued together. Once dry, you can thread a 1-1/4" #6x32 bolt through your Hobby Holder and into the nut. Tighten and start painting!

Grip Mod #3 follows all the same instructions except there are two slots for #6x32 nuts, one in the top and one if the bottom, so it can be used in both directions

Setting up your Tripod Mod

Once printed, simply glue in a #6x32 nut in the deep hole and a 1/4-20 nut in the shallow hole. Thread in a 1-1/4" #6x32 bolt through the center of the Hobby Holder, tighten to the mod, attache to the tripod of your choice, and you are ready to start painting!

Final Thoughts

I decided on the storefront for my online store, and will be launching that in a few days. This way we can process orders through a retail platform as opposed to through BackerKit moving forward, so keep an eye out for that. All the same good Hobby Holder stuff will be available and some new goodies and physical copies of the Mod Files will also be available!

Hello Family! At this point I can call us that :P

We did it in 114 days!

That is how many days it has been since The Hobby Holder campaign launched. Today my wife, my mom and I dropped the last 12 boxes (3 cars full) of pledges into the mail nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. I want to thank them and my friend Derek all of whom spent MANY hours in the living room watching Psych and Would I Lie to You packing caps and tack and many more hours in the basement listening to books and podcasts (and one night steel drum covers) packing pledges with me. I could not have done this without the support of ALL my friends and family! That includes each and every one of you now. Thanks so much!

I'm comfortable sharing this story because, like I said, we are family now :D I did not realize how much weight I had been carrying around until Sunday morning after the last bag was packed and my wife and I took turns watching the boys while trying to get a few catch up hours of sleep and I come downstairs to thank her and I start getting choked up and, I'm not going to lie, teary. Not in a sad way but in a "holy crap I cannot believe we did this what do you mean there aren't 100 more bags to pack wait I get to go to sleep earlier wow people in 50 countries are going to be using The Hobby Holder someone in Japan and Russia and New Zealand and and and actually cares about something I did i can't wait to see what happens next SIGH" way. Every time I started to talk about it I kept getting choked up. Coffee and breakfast cured me, but it was eye opening to feel the impact it has had (in a good way) hit me all at once.

If you have an idea you should run with it! Don't know about xyz? Learn about it! Can't draw? My neither haha, that's why Justin is helping. Don't have 8 arms? I'm sure you know a few people with some that can help :D

Cool Story Bro. Now What?

First things first I am working on completing the 4x Mod Files so you all can start printing and building those. I just stopped at the store to grab some drinks to make sure the larger cap adapter (surprise) works with the likes of Gatorade, Poweraid, Lifewater, Bai etc. caps! I am planning on having those ready by the end of next week, but I might need Sat. and Sun. to get them all set up for dissemination through BackerKit.

For now The Official Hobby Holder Store is through BackerKit. These orders are filled daily as everything is now in stock. I also have stock set aside for game stores who would like to carry The Hobby Holder. I will also be looking into the logistics of adding the mods printed on a Form 2 with Tough Resin to the The Hobby Holder Store. When I have time I will build out the store on my site gameenvy.net to save some processing fees.

I have 19 more miniatures to paint and post videos for! I will start back up on these soon. I haven't had time to paint in 3-4 weeks, so I REALLY want to get on this and back to my painting station. Night Terror from Shadows of Brimstone is next if you forgot.

I love The Order of the Miniature, so I am running with it. I LOVE all the character suggestions and I have been writing them down. I made a Facebook group (that I need to spruce up) that I want to be a place where we can share cool stuff; I will be adding more Order goodies to the store like stickers, t-shirts, posters and The Order of the Miniature minis themselves; and there has also been some talk about a comic book campaign :O

The Sorceress of Superglue Joins Your Party!

I want to give a shout out Paul D Harruff for naming our new party member! I was wanting to add a magic character and his idea stuck *ba dum ch* Once again the talented Justin has brought my truly horrible sketches to life. Without further adieu, The Sorceress of Superglue, Bondcaster for The Order of the Miniature.

As of Saturday she was sent off to Adler at 3eight Interactive to do his modeling magic and bring her into three dimensions. I ordered clear resin to print and cast her from so that her dress and spells can actually be transparent! VERY EXCITED FOR THIS!

I have already begun concepting the first adversary of The Order of the Miniature, The Sprue Beast, so keep a lookout for that.

Tracking Numbers On Their Way

I wanted to send out this announcement as I am hitting the Send Tracking Numbers button. You should receive an email with your tracking number from BackerKit in a bit. As not all of the packages are in the mail yet you might need to wait until later in the week to see your order's whereabouts (if it says nothing, it is in my car or basement still :P). Close to 500 of you will currently be able to see where your Hobby Holders are right now and many more of you, tomorrow. Some of you might even already have yours in hand!

4X Mod Files ETA

I got asked a bunch about when the 4x Mod files would be ready after the last update, so I thought I better include my answer in this update. Because production was ahead of schedule I used a lot of the time that was budgeted to work on the 4x Mod Files to instead pack caps and tac and get organized. That said, I have been working on them periodically, and they should be ready shortly after the Hobby Holders are all out.
